I’m a New York City-based editor and consultant with a passion for books, storytelling, journalism, and the importance of a collaborative editor-writer relationship.

As the former Publisher and Editorial Director of Algonquin Books, a storied independent literary imprint (now part of Little Brown/Hachette Book Group), I edited and published many national and international bestsellers, and books I acquired won or were finalists for countless literary awards, including the Booker Prize, the Women’s Prize for Fiction, the PEN Hemingway Prize, the Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence, the Dayton Literary Peace Prize, the Edgar, Crime Con Book of the Year; many were also IndieNext or Amazon monthly picks.

Before my life in book publishing, I had a long career as a magazine writer and high-ranking editor at Time Inc, working at Time magazine in New York and London, and at People in Sydney and New York, overseeing a large international and award-winning team of reporters and writers covering breaking news, politics, crime, the law, medicine, sports, the arts (especially books), and general human interest features.

For me, the work is not just about the words on the page—though those matter; it’s also about forming a partnership to help bring out the best in the writers I work with.
